Ed Morris and Family with his Indian telephone installation motorcycle c.1914

“If it’s touchin’ it’s talkin’” was a common comment regarding the quality of wire connections at the turn of the 20th Century.  Today’s rigorous testing and installation standards stem from the need to pass more and more information down copper wire or fiber optic cables.  Four generations of our family have been involved in the communications industry over the past 100 plus years, and we have been using the best technology and training available to insure quality and reliability in what we produce.

Ed Morris started work for Pacific Telephone Co. around 1906 in the Seattle area where he used trains, horses, and the famous Mosquito Fleet to travel to job sites.  He moved around the west coast for that company installing lines into towns that had never been connected to the rest of the world.  Using state of the art technology Ed was well known for his expertise using the Wheatstone Bridge to locate trouble and repairing that trouble on his Indian motorcycle.  His wife Erma was an operator for Pacific Telephone before the age of direct dialing.

Bob Morris was next and started work for Pacific Telephone in 1936.  He worked on the conversion of San Francisco to dial telephones.  He met his wife Lois while she was working as a telephone operator in Truckee, California.

In 1975 Toby became a Telephone Technician for the U.S. Coast Guard, working up to Chief Petty Officer.  Installing and repairing everything from open copper wire to assisting in the design and installation of microwave systems up and down the west coast.  He also was a systems technician for Pacific Northwest Bell and AT&T prior to starting J.Morris Communications in 1986.   Customers have included Federal, State, and Local Government agencies, Merrill-Lynch, Unico Properties, Freeman-Wellwood, and many others.

The latest technician is Dave.  Dave spent 6 years in the US Navy as a CIWS technician  aboard the USS O'Kane dealing with radar, radio, intercommunications, and data transmission systems.  After working with DataTel US he returned home to Hawai'i and is now working full time in our industry.  Dave is the fourth generation of our family in telecommunications, 1903 to present.

In 2002 J.Morris Communications became DataTel.US, a name that we feel better describes the company and our services.

Today we use a variety of test equipment and continuous training of our staff to insure that our installations meet the strict standards of the TIA/EIA as well as standards of other leaders of the industry.

Allow DataTel.US the opportunity to serve your needs today.
